Bright and White
This streamlined kitchen benefits from an open plan layout that incorporates an eat-in bar. Rich wood barstools balance the glistening closets and white countertops for a fresh appearance. A sleek pendant lighting and recessed lighting keep the room feeling open and bright.
Gourmet Minimalist
Few things are as simple as great old reflective, expansive white when you are attempting to generate a little space feel larger. Together with high ceilings, stainless counters, a light-colored, mosaic -tile backsplash and a large window that floods the room with natural light, this small flat kitchen feels something but cluttered, though its footprint is tiny. The slick linearity of this space increases the understanding of functionality and roominess.
Sleek and Chic
With this contemporary California loft space, Velvet Hammerschmidt Design of Santa Monica tucked a Bulthaup kitchen below a steel stairway that leads up to the next floor. The cooking occurs on the rear wall while an 11-foot Carerra marble staircase does dual duty as a prep area on one end plus a kitchen table on the opposite. The island divides the kitchen from the rest of the living space while the towering ceilings, light wall colour and reflective stainless provide an airiness. Photo Credit: Velvet Hammerschmidt Design
Let in the Light
A U-shaped design features efficiency when short on space. This modified U puts the fridge just out of sight on the best. A half-wall with countertop and stone foundation hides the workspace from the living room while allowing conversation and light pass unobstructed. All the essentials for cooking and cleaning are within arm's reach. The flat drawer handles are long enough to double as towel racks and the massive floor tiles create the kitchen look bigger than it is. Photo Credit: Haier
Waste Not
This entire kitchen oven, cooktop, sink, storage closets and prep room -- is neatly contained in a large, boldly contemporary island situated smack dab in the middle of this open-design Amsterdam apartment. On one side of this island is a living area and on the flip is a dining space. Multi-utility is the theme of the space. Even the range hood serves a dual purpose, doubling as a shelf for stemware and supplies. Photo Credit: Katie Lips
Cottage Casual
Here we have a pass-through galley kitchen made in the classic schoolhouse style. Open into the dining area and a large sitting-room window on one side, the orderly space is well lit and utilizes light colours to produce the feeling of roominess. Quintessential early 1900s flush-mount fixtures and a subway-tile backsplash prolong the time texture. And there is even space for a desk and computer station on the close end. Go Retro
The classic feel of the kitchen has been maintained thanks in big part to the '50s style refrigerator, while Victorian tile outlines the walls. So as to brighten the space that was very small mirrors have been added into the cabinet doors.
A Shining Example
Getting the most of any available natural lighting in a small kitchen is key -- a well-placed, shiny backsplash captures the window light, representing it throughout the room.
Marbled to Perfection
Galley-style kitchens can be wonderfully utilitarian, particularly in apartments. But particular attention has to be paid into the aisle -- the walkway along with the increased cabinets. Too narrow a distance can cause you to get claustrophobic. To avoid that pitfall, a wall of built-in closets flush with the large refrigerator were constructed at one end of the kitchen. A large window provides lots of light to ward off the glowing marble counters. The sink, oven and fridge are in an easily navigable triangle. Photo Credit: Sub-Zero
Quaint and Cozy
Designer Sarah Richardson gives this small, open, white kitchen a cheery feeling with pops of bright yellow while the grey stone floors ground the area.
Let the Sun Shine
Clutter is the enemy, especially in a 675 -square -foot condo. A splash of aqua tile captures your attention and melds well with the tinted -glass wardrobe on the right along with the overall white decor. Island Living
Tasked with designing an easy-to-navigate work-space, Stephanie Young of Design Spectrum produced a galley-like kitchen with cooking, storage and sink regions within a step or two of one another. Even a pullout pantry not only saves space, but also spares you the frustration of rummaging through a cluttered cupboard. The kitchen has a huge sink, stacked modern appliances, rich floor-to-ceiling cabinetry designed for storage and targeted overhead lighting. Photo Credit: Kevin Scott / Design Spectrum
Country Cooking
With a carefully laid plan you can tuck a homey, country kitchen into a little area. Making the impression of spaciousness is the key. In this case, glass-front KraftMaid cabinets in a vanilla -bean glaze provide airiness while underside lighting removes lots of the shadows. This flat benefits from a huge window which floods the kitchen with an abundance of natural light, providing the designer flexibility to add darker colors, including a red oak floor, plum walls and granite countertops. The kitchen is raised six inches and can be separated from the living space by an "eat-in" bar that seats three. Photo Credit: Jennifer Dickert
The Color Purple
With just 162 square feet of accessible space, every inch of the kitchen has been used. Six inches on each side of the stove, which may have been considered insignificant at a larger kitchen, were topped with marble and utilized to get a pull-out spice drawer on one side and utensil storage on the other.
Hidden Storage
How do you match specialist appliances into a very small area? Challenged by unusual angles and cramped quarters, these homeowners designed a narrow workspace footprint where each inch of space has been an chance to be creative. Using cherry timber, stainless steel and spot light the kitchen has become a natural work of contemporary art. The dining table is a harmonious extension of the island, in which the sink stays. On the left of this oven is a tambour door that rolls around expose pullout shelves for the KitchenAid mixer along with other appliances. Photo Credit: Martha & Michael Stano
Contemporary Cool
Simple Ikea racks were installed for extra storage in the pint-sized kitchen. A vintage-inspired decal is a lively touch on the freezer door.
Keep It Simple
A vaulted ceiling, clean white walls and a front door with large glass panels help make this small kitchen and living area feel open and bright. White Shaker cabinetry conceals a small fridge, full-sized dishwasher, microwave and toaster oven. A farmhouse sink and barn-style pendant lights talk to a contemporary farmhouse aesthetic -- as does the open shelving with beadboard backing. Saddle-style barstools provide additional seating.
Modern Farmhouse Style
Turquoise Le Crueset cookware provides a jolt of color to the neutral kitchen. Refrigerator and A stainless steel gas range pack a great deal of work.
Fun and Functional
The bright yellow cabinets make this little kitchen feel fuller. The bright colour, along with the industrial-style lighting, gray tile backsplash and stainless steel appliances makes a balanced, modern kitchen.
