Pretty Packages

Pretty Packages Who would not wish to receive one of these beautiful gifts? You won't believe what some of those items were before we repurposed them into gift wrap.

From: 6-Pack Carrier Those 6-pack holders you're always dumping in the recycling bin? Save them! You merely require one material to repurpose them in a useful organizer for a thoughtful gift.

To: Awesome Art Kit A portable art kit makes the perfect gift for a budding artist. Go from 6-pack holder to slick artwork supply carrier simply by painting the cardboard with two coats of black craft paint. You might also spray paint it. Top off the gift with an inspirational tag. So skip the gift basket or bag the receiver will probably throw away and give a gift that is not only thoughtful but functional too.

From: Old Shirt On your next closet cleanout, store old shirts that are not in a condition to donate perhaps because they have a hole or stain, particularly if it is not on the sleeves. A shirt sleeve could be your alternative for how to wrap oddly-shaped presents.

To: No-Sew Wine Wrap A bottle of wine is a common don't-know-what-else-to-get gift, but with inventive demonstration, it is going to seem much more thoughtful even if it is a last-minute buy. To produce the wine wrap -- a kids' size top works best -- cut a sleeve about an inch from the shoulder seam. Twist the sleeve inside out, trim if desired and secure the cut end with a rubber band. Flip the sleeve right-side out and slip the bottle in the sleeve. The excess fabric around the rubber band will fit in the base indentation that most bottles have and will rest levelly. Finish with a decorative bow.

From: Coffee Canister Food containers such as coffee canisters or large soup cans are also worth saving, especially ones with plastic lids! Clean out the interior and get creative with how you change them into specific gift boxes.

To: Simple Spa Kit To transform a coffee canister in an cute spa kit, we coated the could with marble-print adhesive paper and filled it with hot tub things such as a face mask, nail polish, lotion and white crinkle paper for padding. Our favourite part of the gift is that the loofah bow. We used a craft knife to cut a small "x" in the center of the lid, then poked the loofah string through and tied a knot. The lucky person who receives this gift won't ever know it was full of coffee beans.

From: Aluminum Foil Box Do you understand exactly what fits perfectly in boxes that hold aluminum foil, plastic wrap and wax paper? Cookies!

To: Cookie Keeper Whether you are making homemade cookies or just needing to regrow store-bought ones, finding a creative way to gift cookies is obviously a challenge, particularly around the holiday season. If the box has a sharp edge for ripping, remove carefully prior to wrap. Cover with your choice of decorative wrap paper, insert some tissue paper, wax paper and, finally, the biscuits. Tie a sparkly ribbon round the center. Notice: Be sure to step forward to be sure the size of your box and biscuits match.

From: Grocery Bags If you keep grocery bags, you already have the perfect wrap paper substitute. These easy-to-find brown bags work great in a pinch if you understand you forgot to buy gift wrap right in front of a party or you run from decorative paper on Christmas Eve.

To: Pretty Brown Paper Packages Impress your friends and family with gift wrap that looks like a million bucks - and definitely not trash! By cutting the bags and employing the blank inside as your paper, you attain the appearance of butcher or kraft paper that lots of people pay for, with something you probably already have. Then you have a blank background to decorate however you choose. Keep it simple with just a bow. Use stamps to make repeating patterns to mimic store-bought paper. Apply paint in a splatter technique for an artistic look. Attach dried or fresh greenery or flowers for an elegant touch. Or top it off with a personalized gift tag.

From: Empty Shoebox Rather than waiting until the holidays to purchase gift boxes in bulk, save shoeboxes throughout the year.

To: Reusable, Chic Gift Box Pick your favourite paper and then wrap the lid and bottom separately. To keep the lid secure, attach a button and series. In case you've got a large enough needle, you can sew the button, or the simpler choice, use a craft brad to puncture a hole in the lid and glue the button into the brad. The person receiving this gift might adore the box up to the true gift.

From: Paper Towel Rolls Another item you likely recycle frequently, paper towel rolls can help solve another common gift wrapping issue: how to creatively gift money.

To: Cash-Holding Poppers To make those poppers, cut two pieces of paper towel roll around two inches wide. Lay both, about half-inch apart, on top of a couple pieces of tissue paper. Roll both bits like a rolling pin and tape paper to fasten. Collect 1 end of this tissue paper and tie with string. Then slip a roll of money in the open end, gather tissue paper on the other end and tie with string. For to the money, hold all of the popper, and twist and pull apart in the same moment.

From: Old Sock If you get a hole at the toe or heel or shed among these socks out of one of your favourite pairs, do not throw them out! The sock could eventually be a simple way to wrap a little present.

To: One-of-a-Kind Jewelry Box Make a cute and cozy package for a jewelry box such as this one by cutting off the top of your favorite old (but washed!) sock. To fasten the floor, flip sock inside out, staple the end and then reverse right-side out. Place small box inside and tie with a ribbon or string, like this black velvet one.

From: Used Candle Container Chances are you have many used candles that have exhausted their good-smelling aromas but you hate to throw off since the container is decorative or could be useful for something. Before you toss that jar candle, consider repurposing it as a present. To wash, heat up your candle on a candle warmer, pour any residual wax and wash with soap and warm water. If your candle just has a little bit of wax left, you may even place the candle in the freezer overnight. The wax will crack into a few pieces that you could ditch. With larger candles, we discovered that the melting method works best.

To: Cocktail Kit The jar candle is now prepared to hold the ingredients of your favourite cocktail, like a Moscow Mule. Include a mini can of ginger beer, a plane bottle of vodka, a lime, stir stick and decorate straw. Wrap up with clear cellophane and top off with a bow and gift tag.

Stash Stuff in Plain Sight

Stash Stuff in Plain Sight Open shelves offer lots of storage while maintaining everyday serveware, pots and pans within easy access. For the authentic chef, built-in knife slots within this kitchen butcher-block island store culinary tools useful. Photo courtesy of The Brooklyn Home Company

Do not Forget the Kids Keep little ones occupied while you end up dinner prep with hideaway kitchen storage for art supplies. Roll-out shelves make the most of the storage space at the conclusion of this colorful island and make it easy for kids to access crayons and paper then put away everything again. Customize Your Pantry Shelves, pullout baskets and shallow drawers will ensure your pantry supplies a place for everything and keeps everything in its place. "Even small closets can be transformed into orderly and spacious walk in pantries. It is all about making the best use of this space you have," states Rozalia Kiss, layout director of transFORM.

Think Vertically Even if there is not space to get a walk in pantry, you do not need to sacrifice much-needed storage. Designer Bart Lidsky of The Hammer & Nail, Inc.. Embraces the height of the kitchen to create a completely operational pantry with cabinetry. No space is wasted with tall pullouts and drawers and shelves of varying sizes that allow for a variety of food storage requirements.

Stash Bottles Safely Curved cradles turn an ordinary pantry shelf into a drink storage center and permit you to store wine or perhaps water or soda -- bottles on their sides without the fear of them falling off the shelf. Photo courtesy of transFORM

Easy-to-Grab Spices Storing spices in a jar as opposed to a wall-mounted rack ensures seasonings are useful for cooking whilst preserving their delicate tastes by shielding them from sunlight, moisture and heat. Photo courtesy of Dura Supreme Cabinetry

Take Storage for a Spin Place corners to work with a carrousel-style rack which matches to allow easy access to items in the trunk. Photo courtesy of transFORM

Maintain Veggies Fresh Year Round Keep root vegetables, like onions and onions, fresh longer by keeping them in a cool, dry, dark location. Handy open-weave baskets, like these, provide air flow to maintain the vegetables dry while the cabinet's interior protects them out of sunlight. Photo courtesy of Dura Supreme Cabinetry

Put Pots in Their Place Instead of precarious heaps of cookware piled in the back of a cabinet, store your everyday pots in a handy drawer. This drawer comprises two distinct segments: a deep area for housing big pots and a shallow roll-out for storing potholders, lids and trivets. Photo courtesy of Dura Supreme Cabinetry

Handy Sink Storage To truly optimize the storage in your kitchen, put unused regions to do the job. Typically, the "drawer" in front of the kitchen sink is merely a false front, however with the addition of cleverly hidden hinges and a stainless steel plate, it becomes out-of-sight storage to get wet sponges and wash brushes. No Longer Junky Drawers Make the most of your utensil drawer with dividers that arrange noodles, beef knives, measuring spoons and your favorite spices. Photo courtesy of Dura Supreme Cabinetry

Practical Dish Drawers A clever peg system allows dishes to be placed in a base cabinet for easier lifting and company. Sturdy slides under the drawer can hold up to 250 lbs, so heavy plates are no issue. Photo courtesy of Mullet Cabinets, Inc..

Easy-Access Pullouts Pullout Cabinet racks certainly are a wise place to store canned goods, dry goods, and fruits and vegetables, while providing greater visibility and ease of access. "Your home and pantry ought to improve the way you live, whether you are hosting friends or cooking dinner for the family," says Rozalia Kiss, design director of transFORM.

Clear the Countertops Stash dishwashing supplies out of sight. This narrow pullout provides sink-adjacent storage for dish soap, scrub brushes and hand towels. Additionally, a towel rack permits the dish towel to wash after use. Photo courtesy of Dura Supreme Cabinetry

Wine Lover's Storage Homeowner Susan Opperman wanted to exhibit her husband's enthusiasm for wine in a fresh, modern way. Her custom-constructed island firmly houses 30 bottles of wine in a functional layout without deflecting from the kitchen general appearance. Not Your Average Lazy Susan Make the most of these pesky corners with drawers which embrace the right angle. Another perk: Corner dividers increase the depth of a normal kitchen drawer by six inches. Photo courtesy of Mullet Cabinets, Inc..

Functional and Concealed Hideaway storage is vital to maintaining a kitchen looking well organized and clean. Pantry-style shelves and pullout drawers optimize storage room in a narrow cupboard next to the dual ovens and refrigerator inside this kitchen designed by Jennifer Gilmer Kitchens & Bath Ltd..

Add Storage into the Island Massive islands are the best space to add much-needed storage as well as a few luxuries. Designer Jennifer Gilmer of Jennifer Gilmer Kitchens & Bath Ltd., included an under-counter beverage refrigerator, deep and shallow drawers, and even an excess prep sink to create a practical and trendy island.

Location, Location, Location Keep pots handy for cooking by keeping them right under the range. This handy drawer even features a partition at the trunk that neatly stores each of the lids in plain view. Photo courtesy of Dura Supreme Cabinetry

Small-Space Solutions Vertical pullout spice racks are the perfect solution for small kitchens, because they take up a minimum amount of real estate while providing lots of storage. The hidden storage also keeps the spices out of light, which may impair their taste. Photo courtesy of Dura Supreme Cabinetry
